The Black Black
Scars In The Afterglow 12″ LP
“You can’t watch it roll, but the slow train’s gonna make it known”
Scars in the Afterglow is the 5th full length from Brooklyn post-punkers The Black Black as they continue to hone their groove-driven-rock approach. The big differences now are new guitarist Yazan Fahmawi adding a dimension with massive guitar work, and Jon F Daily unleashing a more full throated approach to counter the new heavy guitar leads. Dima Drjuchin, and Johnny Skwirut hold down the signature TBB grooves, fulfilling the long standing TBB promise to never play a boring riff.
Scars in the Afterglow continues to explore the world we find ourselves in – dealing with the external strife of living through the era of big tech’s societal remake, and with our internal struggle to balance freedom, fulfillment, and gratitude. Yin and yang are on full display as The Black Black oscillates between contempt for the tyranny this world imposes on us and gratitude for the bounty and freedoms it provides.
Recorded in their rehearsal space (and DIY venue), The East Williamsburg Econo Lodge, they went for a less produced, live feeling atmosphere that helps draw out the strong dramatic shifts in the songs. Scars in the Afterglow is not a one-note banger, but instead an up-tempo journey you’re gonna want to repeat start to finish for years to come.
