Deichman Musikk – March 2021 review:
Groupie - Ephemeral 12" LP
Catchy, noisy and jagged, and with obvious pop qualities.
Full Review:
Dreamy and beautiful post-punk song from the Brooklyn quartet Groupie’s album “Ephemeral” on Handstand Records with a text that challenges the idealization of the male artist ideal. Catchy, noisy and jagged, and with obvious pop qualities. Shoegaze, post-punk and power pop joined together. “Half Wave” is perhaps even more immediate with its danceable glam dressing. The song deals with unrealistic expectations of the other party in a relationship and a really bad partner in a humorous way, and draws inspiration from both Roxy Music and Patti Smith.
